Jaco the Galactic Patrolman

Jaco the Galactic Patrolman was created by Akira Toriyama, and published by Shonen Jump.

The story of Jaco the Galactic Patrolman takes bit before the initial Dragon Ball series begins, around the time that Goku (Kakarot) first comes to planet earth. The story begins with the readers getting introduced to the three main protagonists; Jaco a “Super-Elite Member of the Galactic Patrol” , Omori a retired scientist, and Tights the older sister of Bulma Briefs from the Dragon Ball series. As the story continues more information of Jaco’s mission is revealed. Jaco works for The Galactic Patrol which is also known as the Space Police or the Galaxy Police lead by the Galactic King to maintain peace throughout the Milky Way Galaxy. The Galactic Patrol learns about a Saiyan space pod heading to Earth, and assigns Jaco to the mission to stop the Saiyan, upon arriving to Earth Jaco crash lands on a remote island inhabited by Omori. Jaco and Omori start working together to fix Jaco’s ship, so the pair travel to the city to try to find all the necessary components for the repairs. Once in the city Jaco and Omori run into a teenage girl named Tights who then joins the group to help Jaco get his ship back into shape. Between struggles with repairing the ship and the government interference the trio has quite a lot to do in a small amount of time.

Overall I’d say this is a great addition to the Dragon Ball universe that Akira Toriyama has created. The art style is nothing less than great, and the story line has a lot of action and comedy like many other stories Toriyama has created. I’d definitely recommend Jaco the Galactic Patrolman to any fan of the Dragon Ball series. Plus if you have read any of the Dragon Ball Super Manga you’ll be seeing Jaco and it’s nice to know a bit of his back story to see a bit more of his character.

In the back of Jaco the Galactic Patrolman there is a little special called Dragon Ball Minus, it is the story of how Goku (Kakarot) arrived on earth and the events leading up to his departure from planet Vegeta.

If you haven’t already read Jaco the Galactic Patrolman and you’d like to read it, stop by your local bookstore and pick a copy.

Dragon Ball Super

Dragon Ball Super is a manga created by Akira Toriyama and illustrated by Toyotarō.

This is a continuation of the Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z series created by Akira Toriyama.

The Story takes place a few months after the Battle with Kid Buu and starts off  re-introducing the ever popular characters from the Dragon Ball world. Living in a time of peace, which most of you know won’t last too long.

Around the time this story begins a couple very interesting characters gets introduced, Lord Beerus the God of Destruction, and his faithful attendant Whis. Upon meeting the two new characters more back story of the Dragon Ball universe is reveled; As well as a new transformation. Flash forward a bit. You learn that Goku and Vegeta have been taken in as students to the very mysterious and powerful Whis (who is reveled to be Lord Beerus’ teacher). During the time spent training with Whis, Goku and Vegeta discover another new transformation. The pair of mighty saiyans get to show off a bit of their new found strength while training together, as well as battling a foe from the past (Frieza), although this battle is not shown in the manga it is only mentioned. The super dragon balls are finally reveled and a bit of their history as well. The God of Destruction from the universe 6 Champa and his faithful attendant Vados (who so happen to be the siblings of Beerus, and Whis respectively) come to universe 7 (the universe in which the main Dragon Ball story line takes place). The discovery of multiple universes, and the super dragon balls come to a bit of a surprise to the main characters. A proposal is made from Champa to Beerus for a cross universe martial arts tournament with very high stakes. Currently the story takes place during this tournament.

Dragon Ball Super’s story line is fast paced for the most part, and is a nice revival of the Dragon Ball series. The introduction of new characters and challenges is refreshing as well as having a bit of a nostalgic feel at times. Overall I’d say its a great manga and worth checking out.
