Dragon Ball Multiverse

[DB Multiverse]

Dragon Ball Multiverse is a fan made manga or also known as “Dojinshi” (based off of the original manga series Dragon Ball created by Akira Toriyama) made by Salagir and Gogeta Jr. Along with the help of many other really talented individuals, the DBM team produces new content usually 2-4 pages a week.

The story of Dragon Ball Multiverse focuses on a unique one time event: a cross universe tournament. The competitors taking part of this event are strongest of each of their respective universes. The tournament is held in Universe 0, where there is apparently no life at all so it is ok for all competitors to go all out using their full power. Each universe can be viewed as an alternate timeline of sorts following a basic pattern but with different outcomes due to unexpected events.

There are 20 universes in total; Each having the same Dragon Ball story, but with different outcomes. For example the original Dragon Ball story that we all know and love follows Universe 18 in this multiverse series. In Universe 16 the story stayed the same as Universe 18 but Vegetto never separated while battling Buu, causing the timeline from then on to become different than the original story. Another Example is Universe 17, the events are unchanged from the original story up until the battle between Gohan and Cell, this time the winner is Cell. After winning the battle Cell eliminates the rest of the Z-Fighters and has his way with the Earth and ultimately the universe.

The winner of the tournament will receive 3 wishes from the Namekian Dragon Porunga. The tournament was arranged by the Vargas with help from the Namekians and the permission from the Kaioshins (Supreme Kais) who agreed to this event for one time only, and that after the tournament is over and the winner is determined, they would grant the winner their prize, and then lastly decide to permanently close all links to all of the universes for good.

The story line of Dragon Ball Multiverse (DBM for short) is really well produced. Not only is it following the main story line the events taking place during the tournament (which is amazing), but it’s also giving you universe special chapters giving you a chance to see new worlds and lives by showing its readers the diversity of what could have happened if… The Saiyans defeated Frieza before he had a chance to destroy them… Kakarotto never became good and never became the hero known as Goku… Majin Buu won the fight… Etc…

The art/illustration for DBM is great as well. Gogeta Jr. was the original cartoonist for the main DBM story line and the new cartoonist for the main story line is Asura (who I personally believe to be one of the best at replicating Akira Toriyama’s art style). There have been many great cartoonists for the universe special chapters that use a similar style of Akira Toriyama, as well as some that use theirs own style to interpret the Dragon Ball world.

Overall I’d say this is one of the best fan made Dragon Ball Mangas out there and a great read for anyone who is a fan of Dragon Ball.

Jaco the Galactic Patrolman

Jaco the Galactic Patrolman was created by Akira Toriyama, and published by Shonen Jump.

The story of Jaco the Galactic Patrolman takes bit before the initial Dragon Ball series begins, around the time that Goku (Kakarot) first comes to planet earth. The story begins with the readers getting introduced to the three main protagonists; Jaco a “Super-Elite Member of the Galactic Patrol” , Omori a retired scientist, and Tights the older sister of Bulma Briefs from the Dragon Ball series. As the story continues more information of Jaco’s mission is revealed. Jaco works for The Galactic Patrol which is also known as the Space Police or the Galaxy Police lead by the Galactic King to maintain peace throughout the Milky Way Galaxy. The Galactic Patrol learns about a Saiyan space pod heading to Earth, and assigns Jaco to the mission to stop the Saiyan, upon arriving to Earth Jaco crash lands on a remote island inhabited by Omori. Jaco and Omori start working together to fix Jaco’s ship, so the pair travel to the city to try to find all the necessary components for the repairs. Once in the city Jaco and Omori run into a teenage girl named Tights who then joins the group to help Jaco get his ship back into shape. Between struggles with repairing the ship and the government interference the trio has quite a lot to do in a small amount of time.

Overall I’d say this is a great addition to the Dragon Ball universe that Akira Toriyama has created. The art style is nothing less than great, and the story line has a lot of action and comedy like many other stories Toriyama has created. I’d definitely recommend Jaco the Galactic Patrolman to any fan of the Dragon Ball series. Plus if you have read any of the Dragon Ball Super Manga you’ll be seeing Jaco and it’s nice to know a bit of his back story to see a bit more of his character.

Bonus: DGtT5Md

In the back of Jaco the Galactic Patrolman there is a little special called Dragon Ball Minus, it is the story of how Goku (Kakarot) arrived on earth and the events leading up to his departure from planet Vegeta.

If you haven’t already read Jaco the Galactic Patrolman and you’d like to read it, stop by your local bookstore and pick a copy.

Dragon Ball Super

Dragon Ball Super is a manga created by Akira Toriyama and illustrated by Toyotarō.

This is a continuation of the Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z series created by Akira Toriyama.

The Story takes place a few months after the Battle with Kid Buu and starts off  re-introducing the ever popular characters from the Dragon Ball world. Living in a time of peace, which most of you know won’t last too long.

Around the time this story begins a couple very interesting characters gets introduced, Lord Beerus the God of Destruction, and his faithful attendant Whis. Upon meeting the two new characters more back story of the Dragon Ball universe is reveled; As well as a new transformation. Flash forward a bit. You learn that Goku and Vegeta have been taken in as students to the very mysterious and powerful Whis (who is reveled to be Lord Beerus’ teacher). During the time spent training with Whis, Goku and Vegeta discover another new transformation. The pair of mighty saiyans get to show off a bit of their new found strength while training together, as well as battling a foe from the past (Frieza), although this battle is not shown in the manga it is only mentioned. The super dragon balls are finally reveled and a bit of their history as well. The God of Destruction from the universe 6 Champa and his faithful attendant Vados (who so happen to be the siblings of Beerus, and Whis respectively) come to universe 7 (the universe in which the main Dragon Ball story line takes place). The discovery of multiple universes, and the super dragon balls come to a bit of a surprise to the main characters. A proposal is made from Champa to Beerus for a cross universe martial arts tournament with very high stakes. Currently the story takes place during this tournament.

Dragon Ball Super’s story line is fast paced for the most part, and is a nice revival of the Dragon Ball series. The introduction of new characters and challenges is refreshing as well as having a bit of a nostalgic feel at times. Overall I’d say its a great manga and worth checking out.

Dragon Ball New Age

Dragon Ball New Age or DBNA for short is created by Malik Torihane (Malik Studios).

Malik Torihane does both the Story and Art.

This is a fan made manga based on the Dragon Ball series by Akira Toriyama.

It takes place in parallel time 3 years after the ending of DBGT (Dragon Ball GT), as with any Dragon Ball series a new threat comes to disturb the peace.  Rigor the main antagonist of this story is not one to be taken lightly. Vegeta learns about his forgotten past and his connection with Rigor. For the DBNA series, Malik follows the manga canon of Toriyama’s Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z series, and alters several events in the Dragon Ball GT series to fit with DBNA’s canon.

This story that Malik has created to further fill the Awesome world of Dragon Ball moves at a nice pace; It’s story line and art quality are great and I would definitely recommend this to any Dragon Ball fan.
