Sand Land is a manga created by Akira Toriyama.

Sand Land was created as a one-shot manga piece and originally featured in the ever popular SHONEN JUMP.

The magna was originally supposed to be a short story about a man with a tank, but it progressed into something a lot more. This story is set in a desert wasteland in the far future after the earth had been left pretty much destroyed by war. Water is a scarcity and the only known supply is controlled by a very greedy king.

The main protagonists are a very unlikely group; Rao a human sheriff with an interesting past, Beelzebub the mischievous son of the Demon King Lucifer, and Thief another demon who is the assistant to Beelzebub. Together the group sets out on a journey to find another water source to share between humans and demons. Among their journey the group face many challenges between the monsters, bandits and the Kings Army.

Sand Land packs a great story into a singular book. Akira Toriyama wrote this back in the year 2000 and to this day it still seems to be able to foreshadow a possible future (most likely with out the demons) if we don’t take care of the earth. This is one of my personal favorites by Akira Toriyama. The art style and illustration alone in this book sparked my interest before I read the plot and purchased my own copy of Sand Land. After reading this story I would personally recommend this to anyone who is looking for something new to read as well as expand their personal collection of great manga.
